First, there is nothing wrong with minor electrical work around the house. Installing a light fixture or replacing an outlet are all common tasks that home owners do themselves. However, if I am called out to certify this work, I have to politely decline. The reason is that I warranty work that I inspect. Secondly, my electrical contractor license is put on the line each time I certify a job.
Secondly, it has been my experience that the savings that you achieve by hiring an unlicensed contractor or doing work that is beyond your capabilities quickly evaporate. I'll be honest, I'm an electrician...and I still call a plumber when I need one. In the words of Clint Eastwood, "A man has to know his limitations."
The best approach is to pick up the phone before you begin any electrical work. Many times, I can save you money by pointing out alternatives, or scheduling the job over time so it meets your budget. Give us a call today!
