It's important to consider safety first when you are adding electrical lights and other decorations like inflatable lawn Santas that add additional burdens on your home electrical system.
1. Consider buying LED, Light Emitting Diode Christmas lights. They are more expensive. However, they are long-lasting and many of the LED sets come with spectrum controls so you can alter the color the lights display with the turn of a wheel. LED lighting is also friendly to your power bill.
2. Consider the Christmas Tree. Make sure it is fresh and follow the guidelines in this handy brochure put out by our government: Holiday Decorating Safety Tips
3. Consider staying simple. Many people end up in the hospital from overdoing it when they put up their decorations. Try to limit your decorations to whatever you can do with a six to 10 ft ladder. If you want to see some lights, jump in the car and visit to see the work others have done...you still get to enjoy it.
Until next month, Have a Merry Christmas. Remember that without Christ, there is no reason to celebrate.
